We find Colin in the 1901 census as a 10-year old at 22 Sheshader with his parents John (45) and Matilda (38) as well as his siblings Ann (14), Chirsty (11), Mary (7), Norman (5), Donald (3) and Cattrine (1).

His brother Donald served in the RNR, but was lost in the Iolaire Disaster of 1919.
His brother Norman was also in the RNR, but survived the war.
