Kenneth appears in the 1901 census of Lochcarron, Ross-shire, aged 9, at the Police Station. His father John (who originates from Uig, Lewis) is aged 53, and a police sergeant. He is married to Isabella (42, from Barvas, Lewis) and has 11 children at the time. Apart from Iver (or Evander), the census shows Helen (16), John (14), Donald (13), Mary (11), Isaac (8), Iver [Evander] (6), Isabella Margaret (4), Roderick (3), Angus (2) and Kate Jane (1).  

Apart from Kenneth, Evander was also lost in the war, dying of wounds in 1916 whilst serving in the Canadians. Five other brothers also served in the war, and survived. John was a Quartermaster Sergeant; Isaac a captain and Roderick likewise served in the Seaforth Highlanders. Donald was in the Canadians, and Angus was a mechanic in the Royal Air Force.

Norman was 19 years and 6 months old when he enlisted on 29 April 1912. He was sent to the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on 19 March 1915. He arrived at Alexandria, Egypt on 2 April, and proceeded to Gallipoli on April 8th. On 7 May 1915, he was admitted to hospital in Gallipoli for a nervous breakdown. His death, according to official records, was caused by acute religious mania.

Norman is shown on the 1901 census aged 8, the son of Donald (56) and Ann (50) and brother to Catherine (25), Mary (17), Kenneth (13) and Alexander (11). By the time Norman died in Egypt, his parents had both passed away within days of each other in 1907, and his brother Alexander had drowned a few weeks after the death of his parents. Although pre-dating the birth of Norman in 1893, the 1891 census also reveals two elder sisters, Henrietta (11) and Ann (9).

His brother Kenneth served in the RNR and survived the war.

The 1901 census shows Murdo (5) at home with his parents Kenneth and Annie (both aged 51) as well as his siblings Mary (20), John (14), John (12) and Kenneth (10).

His brother Kenneth was lost in action in August 1918.

John signed up on 19 June 1911, when he was 18 years and 6 months of age. He is described as an apprentice tailor in the employment of Donald Maciver, tailor, of 37 South Beach Street, Stornoway. He stands 5 feet 8 ins tall. His siblings are named as John, Donald, Alexander, Catherine, Mary, Isabella, Chirstina and Katie Ann.Of his brothers, John was interned in Holland and Alexander (like John)  was in the RNR. The 1901 census shows the family at 3 Broker, at the other end of the Point peninsula.
He died on board hospital ship Loudon of wounds sustained at Gallipoli.

John joined up at Stornoway on 25 June 1914, at the age of 36. He was a tailor, standing 5 ft 8 ins tall. He sustained gunshot wounds in various parts of the body, and died on board the hospital ship SS Sicilia.

John Alexander is found as John A Macleod at 12 North Beach Street, Stornoway, in the 1901 census. He is aged 7, the son of George (47, baker) and Margaret (46). Margaret's mother, Ann Campbell (80), is also in the house. Apart from John Alex, we also see his siblings Maggie (18), Williamina (13) and Alexandrina (6).

John Alex's brother Donald also served, in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Kenneth was a blacksmith, living at 21 Newton Street, when he joined the Ross Mountain Battery in  December 1911. He stood 5 ft 4½ ins high. Having signed for service overseas in October 1914, he sustained shrapnel wounds to his back on 14 May 1915 at Gallipoli. Kenneth died on board the hospital ship SS Sicilia and is presumably buried at sea.

The 1901 census shows Kenneth at 1 Shell Street, Stornoway with his parents Alexander (37, cooper)  and Mary (35). He has four siblings, Boyceina (11), Jessie B (9), Kate M (4) and Colin J (1).
