Murdo appears in the 1901 census of 14B Breasclete, aged 7, the son of Donald (37) and Annie (40) and brother of Jessie Ann (12), Donald (9) and Katie Mary (1). 

His brother Donald served in the RNR to survive the war.

Mr Donald Maciver, 14 Breasclet, has been informed that his son, Sergt. Murdo Maciver, was killed in action in the recent great push in France. He was 23 years of age, and being a militiaman at the opening of the war, he had at once to participate, being immediately drafted to the front.
