Norman is shown in the 1901 census aged 4, at 17 Eorodale, at home with his parents Finlay (45) and Margaret (40). Also present are his siblings Donald (13), John (11), Margaret (8) and Angus (6).
His brother Donald was in the RNR; Angus in the 2nd Seaforth Highlanders and John in the Canadian Navy. These three all survived the war.
