Murdo is shown in the 1901 census, aged 2, at 5 Eorodale with his parents Donald (40) and Catherine (32), as well as his siblings Christina (13), Erick (9), Norman (7) and Donald (5).
His brother Donald also served in the RNR; his brother Norman was in the Gordon Highlanders. Both these survived the war.
