Norman is shown in the 1901 census, aged 9, living with his parents Malcolm and Margaret, both aged 39, as well as his siblings Alexander (16), Jessie (14), Ann (12), Norman (9), Peggy (7) and Helen (5).
His brother Alexander was killed in action in France in 1915.
His brother Duncan served in the Royal Navy; another Alexander served in the RNR. Both of these survived the war.
