Alexander is shown in the 1901 census, aged 16, living with his parents Malcolm and Margaret, both aged 39, as well as his siblings Jessie (14), Ann (12), Norman (9), Peggy (7) and Helen (5).
His brother Norman was lost in the Iolaire Disaster of 1919.
His brother Duncan served in the Royal Navy; another Alexander served in the RNR. Both of these survived the war.
The Roll of Honour states that his widow and child were left at 27 Laxay.
