We find Norman on the 1901 census at 10 Portnaguran, living with his parents Donald and Christy, both aged 40, as well as his brothers Donald (15), William (13), Angus (10), Alex (6).
His brothers William and Angus were also lost during the war, serving in the RNR; his brother Alex was killed with the Gordon Highlanders. Only his brother Donald survived.
