We find Alexander on the 1901 census at 10 Portnaguran, living with his parents Donald and Christy, both aged 40, as well as his brothers Donald (15), William (13), Angus (10) and Norman (2).
His brothers William, Angus and Norman were also lost during the war, serving in the RNR. Only his brother Donald survived.
