Stornoway Gazette, 1917
Mr Alexander Macleod, 18 Portvoller, has been officially informed that his son, 2nd lieutenant Angus Macleod, Seaforths, was killed in action in France on 20 November. The deceased officer, who was 31 years of age, joined Kitchener's Army five or six months after the outbreak of war, and crossed to France in February last. He served his apprenticeship as pupil teacher in Aird School, two of the old pupil teachers from which have now fallen - the other being 2nd lieutenant Murdo D. Macdonald, who fell in July 1916. Having qualified as a teacher, Angus took service under the Glasgow School Board, whom her served faithfully and well up to the time of his enlistment. He was a young man of much promise, bright and genial much beloved by all who knew him. He leaves a widow and infant daughter (resident in Partick) for whom and also for his parents, brothers and sisters, the deepest sympathy is felt. Two of his brothers are engaged in the Naval Service and one is in France with the Canadian Army.
