Malcolm was one of the children of Alexander (1851) and Isabella (1857), the others being Annabella (1901), James (1896), John (1888), Margaret (1898), Mary (1893), Murdo (1889), Murdo (1891) and Neil (1885).
His brothers Neil and James served in the RNR but survived the war.
