Donald appears in the 1901 census, aged 4, at 29 Breasclete. He is the son of Malcolm (51) and Mary (43), and brother of John (16), Malcolm (14), Angus (10), Catherine (8) and Maggie (6).

His brothers Angus, Neil and John served in the RNR and survived the war. Neil, for reference, appears in the 1881 census, aged 8.
