Stornoway Gazette
We regret to announce that Mr John Maciver, 25 North Tolsta, has
received intimation that his younger son, Roderick Maciver, RNR, was
killed on the 8th May when his ship was sunk by striking a mine. The
deceased was 23 years of age, and was mobilised at the beginning of the
war. "Ruaraidh" was one of Nature's gentlemen. He was always so gentle
and winning that he was greatly beloved by all, and that, combined with
his keen sense of humour, his invincible cheerfulness, and his
never-failing generosity makes his loss deeply felt in the township.
Indeed to know him was to love him. The sympathy of the whole community
is extended to the family in their sore bereavement.
