John is shown in the 1901 census when he is a 4-year old, living with his parents Murdo (36) and Margaret (35) as well as his siblings Annie (8), Duncan (6) and Roderick (1).
His brother Duncan was killed in 1915 whilst serving with the Gordon Highlanders.
His brother Roderick served with the RNR but survived the war.
