Murdo was one of the children of Murdo (1821) and Christina (1831), the others being Kate 1854, Angus 1856, Christy 1858, Kenneth 1861, Donald 1863, Ishbel 1866, Calum 1868, Margaret 1870, and Angus 1874.
Murdo had four children, John (1905), Kenneth (1908), Mary (1912) and Murdo (1907).
His brother Angus also served in the RNR, but survived the war.
