Lewismen lost in the Great War
Of the 30,000 people that lived in Lewis at the time of the 1911 census, some 6,200 joined up during the war.
Of these, more than 1,200 died during or after the conflict.
Of these, just over 200 were lost in the sinking of HMY Iolaire at the entrance to Stornoway harbour on 1st January 1919.
