Donald appears in the 1901 census, aged 5, the son of Norman (40) and Ann (38) and brother of Donald (12), Malcolm (9), Norman (7), John Murdo (7) and Angus Alick (2).

His brothers Angus Alex and Kenneth served in the RNR; Norman was (also) in the Gordon Highlanders, and Malcolm served with the South African forces. These four all survived the war.
