Stornoway Gazette
This week, information was conveyed to Mr John Maclean, Crowlista, that
his brother, Pte Peter Maclean, Australians, was killed in action on 11
April 1917. Peter had served in Egypt during the South-African campaign,
after which he came back to this country and served some time in the
Glasgow police force. Six years ago, he went to Australia to try his
fortune there. He was very successful, but 18 months ago he left a
thriving business and in his country's hour of need volunteered to come
to her assistance. His unit did good work in Egypt first, and is now
distinguishing itself so conspicuously in France.
