John was one of the children of Donald (1843) and Margaret (1857), the others being Angus (1881), Donald (1880), Duncan (1893), FInlay (1885), Malcolm (1890), Margaret (1883) and Mary (1896). 

Angus was wounded and taken prisoner at St Julien, exchanged for German POW in 1915. Left leg amputated at thigh. Finlay and Malcolm were in the RNR; Kenneth served with the Seaforth Highlanders but died of wounds in 1917.
