His brothers John and Donald also served in the RNR but both died in 1919. His brothers Norman Roderick and Angus served in different battalions of the Seaforth Highlanders and survived the war.
Malcolm served in Anson Bn (RND, D/28) between 19 September and 24 October 1914, discharged to HMS Vivid, then invalided out at RN Hospital Plymouth on 17 August 1917 for Diabetes Mellitus.
