Served in Benbow Battalion from 16 September until 9 October 1914, after which he was interned until the end of the war.

Donald appears in the 1901 census at Garenin, aged 9, the son of Donald (40) and Mary (30), and brother of Chirsty (8), John (6), Kate (4) and Maggie (2).

His brother John served in the Royal Garrison Artillery and survived the war.
