His brother Roderick served in the 2nd Seaforths, but was killed in action in May 1915.

Mr Roderick Macleay, 14 Ballantrushal, has received the sad intelligence
that his youngest son, Pte Louis Macleay, Seaforths, has died of wounds
received in action on 9 January 1918. The sad news casts a gloom over
the whole district. Deceased was only 20 years of age. He was a young
man of upright character, a most dutiful son ,a genial and true friend
and a general favourite with all who knew him. Deepest sympathy is
extended to his bereaved parents, brothers and sisters in their deep
sorrow.
