Alexander appears in the 1901 census at 30 South Dell with his mother Ann (48) and siblings   Angus (18), Catherine (15), Norman (9), John (6) and Finlay (3).

His brothers Finlay and Angus also served in the RNR, and did not survive the war (see separate entries). His brother John did survive the war, having served in the Ross Mountain Battery.
