Roderick appears in the 1881 census at 2 Habost, aged 7, the son of Malcolm (46) and Mary (36), brother of Mary (15), Alexander (13), Ann (11), Margaret (9), Margaret (5), Angus (3) and Allan (1). A decade later, two younger brothers, John (9) and Donald (3) appear on the family's census entry.
The 1901 census shows Roderick, aged 27, as a married man, the husband of Gormelia (23). Also present are Malcolm (64) and Mary (56) as well as Roderick's younger brothers John (19) and Donald (15).
