The 1901 census shows Alexander (5) at home at 2A South End Tolsta with his parents Kenneth (46) and Christina (45) as well as his siblings Mary (17), Donald (15), Kenneth (12), Niel (10) and Malcolm (8).

Four of his brothers also served in the war, but survived.
Donald and Neil were wounded whilst serving with the Canadian Army.
Kenneth and Malcolm served in the RNR; Malcolm in the Trawler Section.
The John Campbell listed in the Roll of Honour is in fact a son-in-law (according to 1911 census).
