The 1901 census shows Norman as a 4-year old at a squatter's house in Bayble. His mother Catherine is a pauper, and has five other children, namely Annie (15), Christina (14), Annabella (12), Catherine (10) and Murdo (6). The 1891 census also shows the father, Donald.
Murdo served in the RNR and survived the war.
