He served in 6th (Perthshire) Battalion (Territorial), and enlisted at Fort George.

Evander is found in the 1901 census in a Squatters' House in Bayble, living with his parents Malcolm (48) and Annie (43) as well as siblings Roderick (17), Angus (12), John (10) and Murdo (10 months).

His brothers Roderick, Angus and Malcolm all served in the RNR and survived the war.
