We find Donald in the 1901 census as an 8-year old scholar, living with his parents Murdo (33) and Donaldina (39) in a squatters house. Also present are his siblings Mary (? 26), Catherine (16), Annie (12), Malcolm (11),
Henrietta (5) and Christina (1 month).
His brothers Donald and John served as Captains in the Merchant Navy.
