John features in the 1891 census at 37 New Street, Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire. His father, John, is a 35-year old carpenter; his mother, Catherine is aged 34. Apart from Archie, we also see his siblings Louisa Ann (8), Mary (5), Archibald (3) and Christina (2). The 1901 census, with the family at 6 Livingstone Street, Kilpatrick, adds Jessie (2) and Annie D (8 months).
John's brother Archibald also lost his life in the Great War.
History further records that upon the death of her husband, Catherine
Murray returned to Stornoway to live at 25 Newton Street, where she died
in 1934.
